Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is a Government initiative that targets extra money at eligible pupils. The premium is provided to school in order to assist teachers and schools to support these pupils in reaching their potential. The Government have used pupils entitled to Free School meals (FSM) as an indicator for Pupil Premium.

The aims of Pupil Premium Funding is to ensure 'disadvantaged' pupils make consistently good progress across school and to raise attainment to be in line with national average and year group expectations:

  • To ensure identified disadvantaged pupils make accelerate progress
  • To deliver intervention programmes alongside quality first teaching
  • To ensure pupil premium funding is allocated to enhance a pupil’s school experience and to directly improve their life chances
  • Residential visits to be paid in full/subsidised for identified pupils
  • To raise attendance & punctuality of identified pupils
  • To provide support for the families of disadvantaged pupils

Free School Meals

Since September 2014, the Government have provided a free school lunch for all children attending Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. However if your child is entitled to a free school meal due to receiving benefits, you will need to apply in the usual way. This is extremely important for two reasons. Firstly, there is still a requirement for the authorities to monitor the number of pupils who would be entitled to a free school meal and secondly, a large part of our school funding is based on the number of children eligible for free school meals.

Whilst the Government is now providing funding for free school meals for more children it has removed the Hardship Funding, which was available to parents for the purchase of school uniform.

Families should apply for the Free School Meal allowance, if they receive any of the below benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income Based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit with an annual income of less than £16,190, provided they are not receiving Working Tax Credit
  • the ‘Guaranteed’ element of the State Pension Credit
  • Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit
